The most frequent disorders with which parents report with children include the following: ear, nose, throat and larynx diseases i.e. laryngological disorders.
Due to the way in which health services are organised in developed countries, including in Poland, little patients at first visit paediatrician or general practitioner who in numerous cases is not able to provide professional help to a child, especially if problems are caused by the upper respiratory tract infection. However, in some, unfortunately significant, percentage of cases, diseases of the upper respiratory tract tend to recur or to become chronic. In such situation, a child requires consultation with an otolaryngologist in order to determine the degree and extent of a problem as well as to prevent potential dangerous complications which may lead to permanent loss of health or dysfunction of sick organs.
